A Brunch to Start the New Year in Style

One of the best things about living in Las Vegas has got to be New Year’s Eve. Even the local stay in hotels on the strip. Not only are the parties fairly wild, but the next day the brunch buffets are to-die-for. While I don’t miss the insanity of the strip on New Year’s Eve, I do miss the luxury of their upscale New Year’s Day Brunch.

A Smoky Party Mix for Your Next Gathering

Chances are, you’ve had Chex Party Mix at least once in your life. Recipes for Chex Party Mix have been floating about since 1952. That’s a long time. However; that first recipe was nothing like the Party Mixes of today. No pretzels, or any chips. It was a blend of Wheat Chex, Rice Chex with Worcestershire Sauce, Butter, garlic, lots of salt and nuts that was baked in the oven.

A New Year’s Eve Supper to Remember

Can you believe it? We are but 48-hours away from 2020. It sounds so futuristic. Yet I’m still waiting for my George Jetson flying car. Even without the flying car, 2020 is a big deal. I think the New Year should be rung in with as much style as possible. What about you?

Italian Dressed Pan-Seared Chicken Thighs

First off, let me say I am a big Paul Newman fan. When I was a young girl, I think he was my first Hollywood crush. But that’s not the reason I like the Newman’s Own food line. Newman’s Own does good work while making a delicious produce. The salad dressings are particularly delightful, and perfect for marinades, too.

Pork Tamales Salsa Verde Enchilada Style

I know, it’s past Christmas and Tamales are something usually eaten after Midnight Mass for many Mexican-American families. However; it’s not too late to enjoy your tamales during the “Christmas Season”, which actually doesn’t end until January 6. In our house, we keep the decorations up until then.

Vegetable Platter to Ring In the New Year

Until the first of the year, we are still in party planning mode at our house. New Year’s Eve we like to spend with family, playing cards and simply enjoying one another’s company. It’s a night of grazing on all sorts of finger foods.

A Day of Reflection with a Casserole

Today is the Feast Day of The Holy Innocents. For those unfamiliar with this Holy Day, it was originally a day of great mourning and fasting within the Christian communities, a day of remembrance for the Slaughter of Innocence. Although the date is unknown, on December 28 the church mourned the children who were said to be massacred in Bethlehem by King Herod the Great in his attempt to kill the infant Jesus.

Better than Fast-Food Filet of Fish Sandwich

Nearly all the television Hubby and I watch has been recorded for viewing when we want to watch. What an amazing concept! To have a life, a busy life and still watch all those Holiday Romance moves or football games or whatever. The convenience of play-back television is that you don’t need to watch the commercials unless you want to watch them.

Ground Beef Goulash Casserole

First I want to begin with a stern warning – this recipe will make a mountain of goulash. It you need to feed a crowd or want to bring something simple to a pot luck, this is the dish to make. If not, plan on left overs.

Slow-Cooker Honey Garlic Chicken

This chicken is amazingly simple to make. Throw your chicken into your slow-cooker, mix up the sauce in a bowl, pour over the chicken, cover, press start and walk away. With the slow-cooker humming along in the corner of the kitchen, Kiddo and I were able to bake a bunch of last-minute Flood Cookies.

Potato Latkes with Sour Cream and Spiced Apple-Pear Sauce

It’s been more than twenty years since we celebrated a night of Hanukkah with our Jewish neighbors. Yet that wonderful night has stayed with me as I carry it in my heart. The prayers, the lighting of the candles, the joy we all felt will not fade. As a Catholic, I could so clearly see the roots of my faith in Jewish Traditions.
