Hey, Sis, It’s Your Day!

Today is the 11th of May. Tomorrow is Mother’s Day. Today is Eat What You Want Day. At least for some of us, that’s true. Today is also the Celebration of Life for my sister, Ann. So today is all about her, as it should be.

A Friday in Washington

The state, that is. So Hello Washington State – and how are you this beautiful day? Today is National Washington State Day. Like most western coastal states, love the landscape but not too thrilled about the politics. So we’ll just steer clear of politics today.

Forty Days Beyond Easter Sunday

Today marks forty days since we celebrated Easter Sunday and the Resurrection of Our Lord. Unlike the forty days of Lent, that excluded all Sundays, this time around Sundays are a part of that forty day count. What, you might ask, makes these Sundays count while those during Lent do not?

Have a Coke Day

It’s National Have a Coke Day. That would be great, if I liked coke. I don’t. In all fairness to coke, I’m really not a fan of sodas to begin with. We didn’t drink sodas as a kid. Root Beer with Pizza after a Little League Game or an occasional RC Cola with a burger. We were more a Kool-Aid bunch. It was cheap, and sweet.

Nothing Shows Appreciation More Than Baking

Oh how I miss Teacher Appreciation Day. We no longer have children in school. Even our grandchildren are grown. And as for Little Miss Hazel, she’s not yet 3 so our first great-grandbaby is only now beginning preschool.

Amazingly Delicious Crêpe Suzette

Here we go again – our second nod to National Crêpe Suzette Day. We haven’t whipped up this yummy French favorite since 2019. You would have thought during the massively insane lockdowns of 2020, we would have been trying all sorts of Crêpe things.

Bless This Day Made for Feasting!

Welcome to the Sixth Sunday of Easter. Throughout the secular world, today is the 5th Day of May, Cinco de Mayo. This year, Cinco de Mayo feels a little different for me. And not because it happens to be a Sunday in the Easter Season.

Orange Juice Day and Old-Style Waffles

Seems like all we talk about lately is this National Day or that National Day. Hey, to write over 3,100 posts I have to get my inspiration from somewhere. Do you realize I have not missed a day of sharing in over 3 years? Yeah, that does not mean I sit here every day writing something.

A Feast Day of Two Apostles

Before Dallas Jenkins gave us The Chosen, I never really paid much attention to the Apostles. I knew Christ selected twelve men for very specific tasks within His ministry. Even Judas was chosen for the very reason of betrayal. While that offends most Christians, the reality is without his betrayal, there would be no redemption.

On This National Day of Prayer

Each year, on the first Thursday in May, we are called as a nation to pray. Organized by the National Day of Prayer Task Force, a non-profit organization of Evangelical Conservative Christians, believers are encouraged to pray for our country. It’s not new – this year marks the 73rd Annual Call to Prayer.

Celebrate Saint Joseph, Worker

In 1889, the International Socialist Conference declared May 1 to be an international day of celebration, a holiday for those who labor. As one can only imagine, this declaration did not sit well with the Catholic Church nor the United States. Yet both were slow to officially react.

Spicing up Another Tuesday

Hard to believe it’s already the last day of April. It’s a bitch to get this old – the days just fly by – racing ahead to the inevitable conclusion of life. Wow, that sounds like a bummer. I just remember when I was a kid, summers seemed to last a lifetime. In some ways they did. Rarely was I the same person at the end of summer as I was at the start.

Shrimp Scampi Day – Not!

Okay, so it’s National Shrimp Scampi Day. If you were expecting yet another Scampi Recips, sorry to disappoint. As many of you know by now, the family took an amazing Cruise Vacation. Since we visited both Hawaii and Mexico, I’m in the mood for some Tropical Heat.

What Goes with Blueberry Pie?

Welcome to the 5th Sunday of Easter and National Blueberry Pie Day. Some people are awesome bakers. While my family enjoys my pies and cakes and other goodies, I prefer to begin with boxed mixes and commertial pie doughs. My sister, Linda, is the true baker in this family. I’d much rather strut my stuff with the main course.

Yum – Wine-Braised Chicken

Welcome to my kitchen on this amazing Saturday. Hubby and I plan to spend a little time this weekend shoring up the raised beds in our garden. It had been our intention to build all new beds this year. The ones we have now have seen better days. I’m not sure why we chose to make the best of what we have for one more year. But we did.
