As luck would have it, today happens to be National Sandwich Day and the Presidential Election in America. Maybe it’s just me, but somehow it seems fitting that on Election Night we think sandwiches.

National Ohio Day and More
The Buckeye State, Ohio, was the 17th state to join the Union. Today is National Ohio Day. Last year, I gave you Slow-Cooker Cincinnati Chili and all that goes with it. This year I think we’ll go in another direction.

Welcome to my November Home. Many of the Thanksgiving decorations throughout our home are old. These are things we’ve collected over the years that speak to us and say “Welcome, please come in.”

Today is All Saints’ Day, also known as All Hallows’ Day (thus explaining why October 31 is Halloween – or All Hallows’ Eve). In Western Christianity, this Holy Day is celebrated by the Catholic Church as well as a number of Protestant Churches. November 1 is also the day before All Souls’ Day, more closely associated with Eastern Orthodox, Eastern Catholics and Byzantine Lutheran churches. Roman Catholics observed both.

Today is more than just National Caramel Apple Day. Today is also National Trick or Treat Day, and not because it’s also Halloween, This year that happens to be a happy coincident. Candy Corn – are you a lover or hater of this Harvest Time treat? Most people claim a strong dislike of the overly sweet Corn shaped treat, yet an estimated 35 million pounds of Candy Corn are sold annually. So either people aren’t honest about Candy Corn or those that love it really love it a ton.

This isn’t the first rubbed pork roast I’ve ever made. Chances are, it’s not the last. That said, this had to be the most flavorful pork roast I’ve ever made. Wow is an understatement.

Today is National American Beer Day, Navy Day and Black Cat Day. So raise your glass of Coors and say thanks to those who serve our country at sea. As for the black cat thing, this day was created to spark awareness of the low adoption rate for black cats. Personally, if Hubby weren’t allergic to cats, I’d have a black cat. These are beautiful creatures. And just for the record, black canine also face a similar adoption problem. So it’s not totally a superstitious over Black Cats.

Today we celebrate Tennessee, the Volunteer State. What an awesome nickname – Volunteer State. People who volunteer are people who are willing to make personal sacrifice for others. Tennessee has stepped up to that plate time and time again, and that’s a history they should be proud of.

Today is National Greasy Food Day. Hands down, it might just be one of the most unhealthiest National Days on the calendar. You could eat healthy on National Dessert Day if you really wanted to, although I subscribe to the notion that Healthy Desserts are a fine example of an oxymoron. My sister may argue otherwise, but in my book treats are a break from healthy choices.

On this day over sixty-years ago, two nations came together to exchange vows and become one in Holy Matrimony. My mother always made a big deal out of the fact that two people on opposite sides of the world were married on United Nations Day.

When did you first try a Boston Cream Pie? I remember buying one from the bakery to serve at a small dinner party when I was barely on my own. It was good and became one of my favorite desserts to pick up at the market.

Say what you want to about living in California, there are a few advantages. Being a conservative in a state controlled by liberals isn’t one of them. Loving a good barbecue on the other hand is. Californians, especially those in the central valley, can barbecue almost all year.

While some aspects of life have returned to normal, not everything is as before. Certain aspects of County Fairs became virtual events over the summer.
