It’s Hamburger Day!

I can remember a time when a slice of white bread was more than just a slice of bread. Flatten it with a rolling pin, use a cookie cutter to cut out different shapes, dip in melted butter and toast in the oven. What a fun treat for breakfast toast.

Not Your Typical Memorial Day BBQ

This year Memorial Day Weekend is really different in so many ways. Not since returning to California in 2008 (as in Hubby, Kiddo and I) have we had an entire three-day weekend to ourselves. There has always been some sort of family gathering. But not this year.

Blessed Be Trinity Sunday

Today we celebrate Trinity Sunday within the Church. As is my custom, I’ve gone back over the last three years and re-read those posts dealing with Trinity Sunday. After all, I need to express its meaning without sounding like a broken record.

I Love Jackson!

No, not the Texas born actor, Jackson Hurst (@jaxhurst), best know for his role as Grayson Kent in Drop Dead Diva. I will admit, at 45 he’s not a bad piece of eye candy. But he’s not the Jackson I’m in love with.

The Last Ember Days of Pentecost

Here we are at the last Saturday of May. For many of us this is a part of a long weekend. As often in the case of long weekends, our family gathers on Sunday to celebrate together. It’s a nice way to break up the long weekend. This year is a little different, but we’ll chat about that later.

Friday’s Ember Days of Pentecost

Today is both the second Ember Days of Pentecost and National Wyoming Day. As the second Ember Days of Pentecost, it naturally falls on a Friday. In our house, that means no meat.

Hello World Turtle Day

World Turtle Day is celebrating its 4th birthday. Established in 2020 by the American Tortoise Rescue, a non-profit organization dedicated to protect our turtles while educating the public. Turtles belong in the wild, with the exception of a chosen few who act as ambassadors around the world.

Welcome the First Ember Days of Pentecost

Coming up with recipes to share day after day ain’t easy. Thank God for my compulsive nature and that I have 196 cookbooks in my collection thus far. The oldest is from 1899; the most recent was a gift from Kiddo for Mother’s Day.

It’s All About Strawberries and Cream

Springtime in our part of California only means one thing – lots and lots of street fairs, farmer’s markets and spending time outdoors. The town of Lodi (as in CCR’s stuck in Lodi again) holds a spring and fall street fair. Both are huge and oh so much fun.

Holy Mary, Mother

When you consider the life span of the Church, under the direction of the First Pope, Peter, appointed by Christ, we’ve been here a very long time. From that perspective, a Devotional Feast Day proclaiming Mary, Mother of the Church is very new indeed, having been established in 2018.

The Roots of Pentecost Sunday

Do you know the origins of Pentecost? For Catholics, it signals the end of the Easter Season. But did you know Pentecost is very much rooted in Judaism?

Happy Earthy Birthday Saint John Paul II

There are a lot of things going on today on the National Front. It’s No Dirty Dishes Day and Armed Forces Day. We’ve celebrated both in the past. Since I’ve been more focused on the Church as of late, I thought it would be nice to talk about a man I truly admire. Today is his birthday.

When I think of Idaho

May 17th. May 17th. The date just keeps turning over and over again in my mind. May is nearly behind us. How is that possible? We just got home from the cruse in March. How can it be May already? Wow.

The Way of Saint James

It seems fitting that the Way of Saint James and Scallop Day share the same date. After all, the Scallop Shell is a symbol of the Way of Saint James.

Keep That Spice A-Coming

Today is Chocolate Chip Day. So I bet you were expecting cookies. Yeah, that isn’t want I wanted to do today.
