Today is Veterans Day. No apostrophe. Veteran’s Day implies it belongs to one veteran. Veterans’ Day would mean a multitude of veterans possess the day. The day is to honor all veterans, and not meant to belong to anyone.

Best Wishes to the Corp
On this day in 1775, the Continental Congress first established the Continental Marines. Two battalions of Marines fought for America’s independence both on land and at sea. The Corps was abolished at the end of the Revolutionary War. Can you imagine?

It’s hard to believe, but there is more to Louisiana than just the French Quarter of New Orleans. And there’s more to celebrate than Mardi Gras. I know, mind blowing, isn’t it?

Good morning and welcome once again to National Cappuccino Day. I say this as I sip a pint of New Orleans Chicory Coffee, and not a Cappuccino. Have you tried Chicory Coffee? It’s not really coffee, but it sure taste good. Those in the know say to brew 2/3 part coffee with 1/3 part Chicory. Mine comes already mixed as the perfect blend.

Did you remember to change your clocks? As of 2 o’clock this morning most Americans (and others) have returned to wasting Daylight. Oh, I mean Daylight Savings Ends, so I guess we’re using all the sunlight we’ve been saving since spring. Once upon a time we did this in October, now it’s the first Sunday in November. Guess we needed more time to save up all that light. So we get to see the sun in the morning, but our evenings are dark long before the day is over.

Welcome to the sixth day of November, and the first Saturday of the month. Today we are blessed with not one but two delicious Foodie Days. The 6th of November is National Nacho Day. And the first Saturday of November is National Bison Day.

Take Out or Cook In?
Today is Chinese Take Out Day. Yep, it’s that day again when we talk about how we don’t do Chinese Take Out and why. You all know my stand – it’s not that I object to Chinese Talk Out, we just don’t do much in the way of take out period. The only exception, for the most part, is take and bake pizzas.

Welcome to the first Thursday of November. If you’ve been around for a while (thanks!), then you know that today is National Men Make Dinner Day. There are only five rules. The biggie is that the men must cook – no barbecuing, grilling or ordering take out is allowed.

Today is National Sandwich Day. So take a guess as to how many sandwiches are eaten per day in American? Now remember, we are talking office workers and construction workers and kids in school. That’s a lot of people. Some estimate that 300 million sandwiches are eaten per day. Wow!

The day following All Saints is All Souls. Today is also National Ohio Day and National Deviled Eggs Day. For the past two years I concentrated on Ohio Day. It was fun, informative and oh so delicious. For whatever reason, we’ve simply skipped Deviled Egg Day. Not that we haven’t enjoyed numerous Deviled Egg Recipes, we just haven’t done so on National Deviled Egg Day. Maybe next year.

Come Marching In. Today is All Saints Day. I can’t help it, when I think All Saints then I hear music and suddenly I’m transported to a place I’ve only seen in my dreams – New Orleans. More on that later.

Obviously, today is Halloween. To celebrate or not to celebrate. The verdict for many was up in the air – with the Delta Variance, there was talk of yet another Halloween cancelation. Long before October, family-oriented gathering places in California began to announce the cancelation or strict modification for Halloween festivities.

Candy Corn is one of those Halloween Treats that people either can’t get enough of or avoid at all costs. I think as kids we loved Candy Corn because it was about as obnoxiously sweet as you could get. As adults, our tastes have gone in another direction.

Today in National Oatmeal Day. Now I have a younger sister who would insist today is one of the most important National Foodie Days on the planet. She swears by the benefits of oatmeal, especially for healthy hearts. While I am not disputing this, the only oatmeal I’m interested in comes in the form of warm oatmeal cookies.
