When I saw this recipe from Serious Eats, I knew I had to give it a try. My only hesitation was my guys. Oh sure, they love burgers. But these aren’t your ordinary, run of the mill burgers. They are delicious, fancy-pants burgers.
It’s Have a Sandwich Day!
Today is National Sandwich Day. I know, strange that something usually served cold would have its day in November, when a sandwich is the furthest thing from your mind unless is might be an open-faced Turkey Sandwich. Yet here we are, honoring the Sandwich. Why? Because Americans eat more than 300 million sandwiches a day. It is the most popular thing to put in a brown paper bag.
Autumn Roasted Rosemary Apple Chicken with Shallots
Perhaps it was spending time in Murphys that made Autumn and October come to life. Perhaps it was that chill in the air as the sun dipped below the Coastal Mountains. All I know is that the yearning for a great fall supper was undeniable.

Pumpkin Thanksgiving Deviled Eggs
A few years back, I made all my Thanksgiving Appetizers in a single theme – Turkeys. It’s amazing just how many dishes besides a roasted turkey can be transformed into a turkey. Everything from dips to vegetable platters can become “turkeys” with a little imagination.
National Ohio Day and Slow-Cooker Cincinnati Chili
November 2nd is National Ohio Day. As America began its western expansion, Ohio was the 17th state to join the Union and the first state to enter the country from the Northwest Territory. It’s also home to what the Smithsonian called one of the top 20 Iconic foods of America – the Cincinnati Chili. Texas chili fans find Cincinnati’s chili weak – far too thin, without enough spicy sizzle. But then most true chili fans are under the impression that Cincinnati Chili is some weird form of Chili Con Carne served over spaghetti. Cincinnati Chili is anything but.

New Orleans Bourbon Street Glazed Ham
Today is All Saints Day. For Catholics, it is a Holy Day of Obligation, and we are required to attend Mass. Truth be told, not all Catholics, including yours truly, manage to meet that Obligation. What I do like about All Saints Day is that it celebrates all those who have reached the ultimate destination – Heaven. The Church honors everyone in Heaven, known and unknown. I love the fact that the Church admits there might be things in the Heavens and on Earth and of God that they don’t know.
Honey Glazed Ginger Salmon
We all know that eating healthy included eating fish at least once a week. Fish need not be deep fried or beer battered to be delicious. Baked or pan seared are healthy and delicious options.
National Caramel Apple Day and Caramel Apple Fondue
It seems only fitting that National Caramel Apple Day and Halloween are one and the same. Just as black cats and witches shine on Halloween, so too do Caramel Apples taste better on this night.

Nugget Chicken Cacciatore
This chicken is awesome with a light pasta side, a simple toss salad and warm bread. Pour wine into jelly jars, put Dino on the record player and just say oh yeah that’s amore. I love casually elegant Italian suppers. While white wine might seem the logical choice, please think red. A nice Chianti is perfect.
Homestyle Chicken and Biscuits is Comfort Food at Its Best
There is just something about Chicken and Biscuits that speaks to me. It says I’m home. Kick off my shoes, gaze into the faces of my family and just feel the love. Simple brings the greatest depth of comfort.

Delicious Mushroom Pea Fettuccine
Recently I made what I considered to be a delicious semi-Italian Friday Night supper for my guys. As Hubby and I cleared the dishes, I commented that I really enjoyed the earthy woodsy-nuttiness that the blend of mushrooms, in particular the Porcini Mushrooms, gave to the dish. Hubby shrugged. I took that as disappointment in my choice for a Catholic Supper.
An Oktoberfest Bratwurst Vegetable Supper
Here it is the end of October already and I have yet to share an Oktoberfest meal with you. To be honest, I don’t know much about Oktoberfest except that in Germany it is a big deal and here in America it is like Saint Patrick’s Day – an excuse to drink beer. Still, I wanted to do something colorful and festive for my family that involved beer – as in something cooked in beer. The solution? Bratwurst, of course.

Broiled Asparagus with Lemon-Tarragon Dressing
Isn’t it amazing what a little char can do to change the textures and flavors of food? I especially love the nutty earthy flavor a little char will bring to a stalk of asparagus. Wow.

Popcorn Chicken with Garlic Aioli Dipping Sauce
There are so many things that I love about this time of the year. I like the smell of wood burning. We live in an area that has nearby farm houses. These are old homes that burn wood for more than just ambiance. We are surrounded by orchards. The old, less producing trees become firewood. I love the smell.
