Creamy Chicken Thighs Over Cheese Tortellini

Sunday Chicken doesn’t need to be Southern Fried or Roasted. Both are delicious, but sometimes we like to kick back with a creamy one-skillet supper. Easy, relaxed and delicious. This is one of those moments.

Honey Garlic Buttery Roasted Carrots

One of the benefits of a harmonious union between two people who are not alike is that you can help one another grow. Grow as people, discovering new things. While surrounding yourself with people of strong opposing views can be both frustrating and exhausting, being with people who are just like you in every way would be boring as all get out. Enough differences to make life interesting. Enough compatibility to let love grow.

Another National Red Wine Day

Today is National Red Wine Day. As it turns out, this isn’t the only National Red Wine Day on the calendar. The other is October 15. Most think of red wine as a cool weather harvest drink, which explains the original celebration in October. However in 2013 wine-lover and freelance writer, Jace Shoemaker-Galloway created Red Wine Day as a late summer celebration. He felt why wait?

Love That Great Barbecue Flavor!

Summertime and barbecue just naturally go hand in hand, sort of. Early summer, when it’s warm outside. Late summer, just before the harvest of fall. Those are the times when we all enjoy gathering round the grill.

Cooking Together is an Expression of Love

Hubby and I celebrated 34 years of marriage this month. While we’ve had more romantic anniversaries over the years, this year was by far the most intimate in the truest sense of the word.

Welcome to Maryland

Maryland is a state of conflicting history. Maryland, the 7th state to join the Union, with a coastal location deeply rooted a maritime heritage. Not all Americans are familiar with the battle at Baltimore’s Fort McHenry during the War of 1812. Yet every American recognizes the description of the the battle as bombs bursting in air. It was then that Francis Scott Key penned the poem that would one day become the words to our National Anthem.

Make Sundays Finger-Licking Good

What were Sundays like when you were growing up? For me, Sundays were family time. It was crazy in the house, getting everyone into their Sunday Best before heading out to church. Back then, the Mass was in Latin. The only English I can remember was “Though the Mass has ended, go in peace”. Yeah, I was ready to go.

Tater Tot Breakfast Pizza

Hubby loves his tater tots. He likes them with just about anything, and will eat them just about any time of the day. Just the tots, with a sprinkling of salt. Pile them alongside a burger or grilled dog. Serve them in the morning instead of Breakfast Potatoes. He doesn’t care, so long as he has his tots.

Celebrate Spumoni Day with a Lush

Today is National Spumoni Day. You know Spumoni – that delicious frozen treat which hails from southern Italy. Traditionally, Spumoni is three molded layers of gelato to create one uniquely delicious dessert. Traditionally, one layer included candied fruits (most often cherries), one layer with nuts (usually pistachio) and the third layer is luscious dark chocolate.

Southern Favorite Meets Chocolate Chip

I suppose you could say that Pecan Pie is so awesome that it has two days of celebration and acclamation. The first is National Pecan Pie Day on July 12. The second is today, when Chocolate is added to the mix for Chocolate Pecan Pie Day. Hum, makes me wonder, will we have a Bourbon Pecan Pie Day as well?

Delicious Diabetic-Friendly Baked Potato

When I first crossed that fine line from borderline Diabetic to Insulin Injections, I went in search of all things diabetic in an effort to change our entire eating habits. As far as making a complete transformation, cutting out all sugars and carbs and unhealthy refined food from our table, I will admit I failed. However; the search did lead to discovering dishes that are delicious and deemed diabetic friendly that I have incorporated into our diet. Moderation is the true key to success.

There’s More to Fajitas than Chicken

Today is National Mail Order Catalog Day, Ice Cream Pie Day and my personal favorite, Fajita Day. Although I will admit, I have a soft spot in my heart for Mail Order Catalogs. I can remember the Sears Christmas Catalog – as thick as a phone book and packed with all sort of childhood fantasies. Page after page, it was enough to put Santa’s Workshop to shame.

On this day in history, President James Buchanan received the first transatlantic cable from Queen Victoria in 1858. Hum, wonder if he toasted the historic event with a nice buttered rum.
