Today is Palm Sunday. Last year, we had an awesome Passion Palm Sunday Feast. Palm Sunday is one of my favorite celebrations if you hold it in that moment of praise and acclamation. My spirit soars. The palms we waive on this Sunday will become the ashes of penance and forgiveness the next Ash Wednesday. This year, things are different.

Westward Ho to Nebraska
Today is National Nebraska Day. The Corn Husker State joined the union on March 1, 1867. Pioneers migrating westward along the Oregon, California and Mormon Trails traveled through the area, marking off recognized landmarks along the way.
Buttery Lemon-Pepper Pork Piccata
I love Piccata dishes, no doubt about that. I love the lemon, the wine and most of all the briny Capers. If I had things my way, I’d put Capers on everything. Okay, maybe not everything. I’d have to pass on Caper Pancakes.
A National Day Made Easy
Today is National Chicken Cordon Bleu Day. Each year on April 4th, we celebrate a dish that sounds French, but is actually an American adaptation. Cordon Bleu is the French term for “Blue Ribbon”. In France, a similar dish is made with Veal. Both are delicious.
Look to Italy on Lenten Fridays
Today is the 5th Friday of Lent. Normally, during this time of the year Catholics world-wide refrain from eating meat on Fridays. This year, for some Catholics in the United States, things are different.
Mushroom Rice Chicken Revisited
It’s been two years now since I shared my recipe for Baked Chicken Breasts with Mushroom Rice. This is kind of, sort of but not quite that same recipe. Yeah, that makes sense.
Brunch Ideas Coming Your Way
It’s funny the things we take for granted. If you know how to cook, you don’t really think about facing life without some skills in the kitchen. I bring this up because Easter Brunch is a popular after-service activity. You need to make reservations well in advance. Not this year, since the restaurants all across the country are closed. And let’s face it, brunch does not bode well as a carry-out meal.
Make it a Grande Burrito Day!
Did you know that the first Thursday in April is National Burrito Day? Wow – it’s April – finally!! Anyway, according to the National Day Calendar, the best way to observe Burrito Day is to call all your friends and go out for burritos or serve them up at home. The at-home we can handle. Maybe next year, we’ll include friends.
Slow-Cooker Barbecued Beans with Sausage Ring
It’s Wild Card Wednesday in my house, which means anything goes. Feel like breakfast for dinner? Why not! Eat Pizza in bed? You bet.

Gotta Love Sourdough Bread!
Today is National Sourdough Bread Day. I kicked around a lot of ideas for today and decided to go with the bread bowl idea. It really doesn’t matter what you put into a sourdough bread bowl, from chilies to chowders to soups and stews, it’s all delicious. The bread bowls just make the presentation extra special.
Butterfly Roast Chicken with Roasted Vegetables
Normally a Roast Chicken would be reserved for a Sunday Supper. Lately, I can’t tell Sunday from Monday. I do keep track of Fridays, but only because it’s that whole “no meat” on Fridays thing.

Yea – It’s National Tater Day
Today is National Tater Day. I gotta tell you, this day could not have come soon enough. I need a break from life in oh so many ways. And what better way to take a time out than with little finger foods.
Pack Lite and Walk in The Park
Today is National Walk in the Park Day. This day was created to encourage us all to get out, stretch our legs and breath in the fresh air. The day has a whole new meaning in light of current world events. Sadly, not everyone can take advantage of a day outdoors.
Hot Sauce Chicken with Spicy Gravy
Today is National Hot Chicken Day. I gotta tell you, this was not the original recipe chosen for today. I had wanted to share a recipe for Chicken-Fried-Chicken with a Creamy White Gravy. So why the change? Buttermilk isn’t something I keep in the fridge, it’s something I buy only when a recipe calls for it. And I didn’t have any at home. The thought of braving a trip to the market for one recipe just wasn’t cutting it.

Oh for the good old days, when we could visit a real zoo instead of a virtual one. And any trip to the zoo meant hunting down those carts with giant soft pretzels and warm Churro Sticks.
