Today in National Escargot Day. If ever you were tempted to try Escargot, then today is your lucky day. If you are preparing it for the first time, and serving it to people who have never tried Escargot before, my first piece of advise is to serve it stuffed in a mushroom cap.

Italian Cannoli Cake
Leave the gun, take the Cannoli. What could be more Italian than a Cannoli? While I can think of a lot of things, none is more delicious or closer to my dessert loving heart than Cannoli.
Asparagus, Sun-dried Tomato, and Chicken Spaghetti
In our house, we have turned Thursdays into Italian Night. It means we get to try something new from my favorite part of the world – Italy. This wonderful dish brings together so many different “favorite” flavors and textures on a single plate.

Squeeze Burgers Dressed in Cheddar Cheese Skirts
A million years ago, a burger joint opened in the mid-town area of Sacramento. It was very popular with the locals and lawmakers alike. The lines to get in the narrow doorway were out the door, down the street and around the corner. It was a very tiny place. You actually had to “Squeeze in” to find a spot.

Memorial Day is More than just Backyard Barbecues
Like just about everyone in America, I look forward to Memorial Day – a three-day weekend with plenty of family, backyard barbecues or picnics and trips to the beaches, parks and forests that abound. Like most of us, I avoid the media bombardment of Blow Out Sales.

Jalapeno Crescent Rolls
Earlier I gave you my recipe for Nacho Soup. Sure hope you enjoyed it. One of the things we like to have with soup is some sort of warm bread.
Beefy Nacho Supreme Soup
We love Nachos in this house. Chicken nachos, steak nachos, spicy chorizo nachos or raunchy movie-theater style canned cheese poured over chips nacho. Hey, what’s not to love about nachos, right?
Blackberry Balsamic Summer Berry Salad
Today is National Pick a Strawberry Day. I gave the idea of picking strawberries a great deal of thought. After all, we are growing strawberries in the garden this year. Picking our own strawberries is a subject for another day.
National Quiche Lorraine Day
Today is National Quiche Lorraine Day. Did you know that Quiche Lorraine is the original form of quiche, from the French region of – what else – Lorraine. If you knew that already, then like me the chances are you were wrong. During medieval times, the Germans in Lothringen had an open pie, the Kuchen. The word Kuchen eventually became Kische. When France conquered Lothringen, they lay claim to the German’s Kische, renaming the dish Lorraine and changing the spelling of Kische to the more standard French spelling, Quiche.
Apricot-Glazed Carrots
So often in our pursuit for a new main star or dessert that will knock our socks off, we have a tendency to skip that equally important side dish. While not always the case, most of life requires supporting characters to round things out. Side dishes are supper’s supporting characters.
Boozy Bacon Bourbon Barbecue Chicken Kabobos
Memorial Day is coming – the unofficial official start of the grilling season. Are you ready? I know we’re gearing up for some down home good eatin’. Corn on the cob. Big pots of beans. Plenty of ‘tater salad. Oh yeah! Last year, this delicious chicken barbecue was part of a Labor Day celebration fitting for the end of the grilling season. Today it’s time to let this boozy dish shine all on its own.

Double Western Bacon Burger
There once was a time when Hubby, Kiddo and I would have dinner out once a month, at a different Hamburger Joint. The goal? To find that perfect, gotta have it burger.

Lately I’ve been serving up a lot of Broccoli without all the rich sauces and tons of butter. I really like broccoli kissed with seasonings and a little spark of Red Pepper Flakes. Yeah, it’s really darn good eating! It’s not often that something we enjoy eating is also good for us. I wish say Chocolate Cake for example had the same health benefits as a plate of broccoli.
Smoky Chipotle Idaho Fries with Dipping Sauce
If you have been following along for a while now, you know that sometimes my brain works in ways that don’t always make sense. At least not to the outside world. Did you know that today is National Idaho Day? We all know that the best potatoes come from Idaho. So it wasn’t a huge leap to think French Fries, right? Well, yes and no.

Triple Dipped Fish Fingers with Tarter Sauce
If it’s Friday, it must be fish. At least that’s the way it is in our Catholic house most Fridays. Not all Fridays, but most Fridays. As a kid, I hated Fridays. What, fish sticks again! As a young adult, it meant egg salad or tuna salad sandwiches. Okay, are you depressed yet? It gets better.
